Cebu City’s business process outsourcing is being promoted for expansion along with other cities in the country outside of Metro Manila. Wave cities like Cebu were recognized because of the workforce already available on the area.

Cebu City’s business process outsourcing is being promoted for expansion along with other cities in the country outside of Metro Manila. It was recently reported by an investment firm Tholons that the city was among the most preferred BPO destinations in the world. It came in eighth (8th) on the rank which is one step higher than its place in 2012.

Most BPO companies are operating in Metro Manila and only 25 percent are spread on the other cities of the country. There are around 95,000 employed in IT and BPO firms in Cebu City and another close to 2000 are employed in the neighboring city in 2012. Wave cities like Cebu were recognized because of the workforce already available on the area.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) record shows that Central Visayas is one of the “fastest growing economies” in the country. Talking about the region’s economy, in figures, service and industry sectors comprised 55.8 percent and 36.4 percent respectively.

Efren Carreon, NEDA 7 Assistant Regional Director, said that industry and services drive the region’s economy. The gross domestic product increase is expected to grow more than 6.6 percent which is its present rate.

In general however, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Assistant Director General Rosemarie G. Edillon said that the country is experiencing fast progression because of macroeconomic stability. She also mentioned the positive performance of the country on the stock market, growth of gross domestic product (GDP) and the credit upgrade of the Philippines by International Fitch Ratings.

The country’s good economic performance was also attributed by NEDA to the present administration’s way of governance. They say that clear policies and transparent accountability helped a lot which are also in connection to its drive in eradicating corruption.

Social inclusive growth is also observed by the government. And as they say that only through jobs that this can be clearly felt down to its lowest level. Edillon, clarified that social inclusive growth is different from economic growth. She further explains that the social inclusive growth gives more opportunities for all particularly households which are considered to be on the poverty level.
