In recent years, outsourcing has grown from being considered mainly as a “popular” business strategy to a mainstream “phenomenon”. Now, however, outsourcing is considered a “business essential” detrimental to the growth and scalability of a business.

As the outsourcing industry grows in strength and scope, so do the trends that govern and define this industry. At the start of the year, DATAMARK Inc., a leading BPO firm based in El Paso, Texas released their predictions on the hottest 10 business process outsourcing trends for 2012. Likewise, other industry leaders have released their own predictions for recent outsourcing trends to watch out for.

Smaller Deals

In the past years, large to midrange deals were the most common in outsourcing contracts. However, as contracts come up for reletting, a large number of accounts will be changed into smaller, shorter and less complex ones. According to the outsourcing consultancy firm, Information Services Group (formerly TPI), outsourcing contracts worth $100 million or less has more than tripled in number.

Increased Focus on Security

With more and more knowledge-based processes being outsourced, information security has become one of the most important areas of concern in an outsourcing venture. As clients raise issues on security liability limits, outsourcing service providers are increasing focus on searching and developing new and better ways to protect data, making data security one of the most critical differentiating factors in vendor selection.

The Social Contact Center

The areas for managing customer relationship will no longer be limited to phone calls and e-mails but will extend to social networks such as Facebook, Google+, Twitter and others. As these social networks have far-reaching influences into the global society, outsourced contact centers will have an exclusive staff keeping track of customers’ activities on social networks and having a strategy in place for coping with any public relation issues.

According to international consultancy firm, Ovum, the global BPO market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 5.4% to $93.4 billion in 2015. As more countries compete for a larger market share, so will public and private initiatives continue to increase and diversify to attract outsourcing jobs.
